North London Group - 10 Week Immersive Drawing Workshop.
This term, we will continue working from a life model and the junk pile still-life setups, We will begin translating these ideas into the medium of oil paint. we will deepen our understanding of drawing fundamentals by working from a ‘Junk Pile’ still-life setup. This arrangement is designed to help us move beyond the world of nameable objects and into a realm of abstraction and pictorial language. We will focus exclusively on premier coup compositions—one-shot drawings inspired by the works of Edwin Dickinson, the teachings of Charles Hawthorne, and the practices of The Jerusalem Studio School. Midway through the term, we will introduce a life model into our sessions, shifting our focus to composing with the human figure. By drawing the figure in fragments, we will avoid mindless copying and instead strive for moments of ‘truth’ and discovery in our drawings. Our intention will be to understand the nude as a metaphor for larger ideas in nature while developing a personal language of ‘form.’ This workshop is open to all levels, however only recommended for serious and committed students. Experienced students will be permitted to alternate sessions between painting and drawing.
