A chance to explore watercolour in a relaxed and creative environment. We will take a broad approach to this sensitive and vibrant medium. Along with more traditional techniques, you will be encouraged to develop your own intuitive direction. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience. This course will provide a practical understanding of the various ways watercolour can be used. The class will include exercises to explore different techniques, how to mix colour and apply paint, use of other water-soluble materials, eg, ink, pen and wash, gouache as well as analysing the methods and approaches of other watercolour artists. Throw away your pencils, it's time to try something new. This course looks at approaching life drawing in a fun, new way. Every week we will be drawing from the model over a variety of poses and timings using different techniques and materials. The aim of this course is to enable you to discover a new form of artistic expression. Whether you have never tried drawing from a model, or have many years experience, this course will open your mind to new possibilities when drawing the figure. Large scale or small? Charcoal or biro? Getting Started with Oil Painting

In this 10-week course tutor Joe will show you the basics of painting portraits using oil paints. Arranged into 5 two-week modules, you will look at examples from art history and explore different techniques and colour palettes (both modern and traditional) allowing you to decide which approach works best for you in this versatile medium. Starting the course working in monochrome from photo reference you will progress to working in full colour from a live model. At the end of the course, you will have the basic techniques required to paint portraits in oils, techniques that you can easily carry forward and apply to other genres of painting. £285 for 10 weeks.

Through brief exercises and demonstrations, you will explore some of the basics of painting and printmaking (without a press) including composition, colour mixing and applying paint. You will also learn about other artist’s work and have the opportunity to discuss your own work in a supportive and friendly environment. This course is a great way to learn and develop new skills as well as refreshing your knowledge of the basics.

Each week a different model will present a variety of poses which allows students to progress from quick warm up exercises to a longer 45 minute pose, ideal for those who want to produce a more detailed study or a quick painting. This class is suitable for students of all abilities, with encouragement and drawing tips from tutor Joe who encourages students to find their own methods to interpret the human form.

The aim is that members will contribute to group critiques in a constructive and analytical manner to further progress and artistic sensibilities. A democratic outcome for each term will be settled upon. Any medium may be employed but specific workshops e.g. pastel, water colour etc can be offered if desired. £280 per 10 week term. Students will be guided through the use of various media to explore the human form, developing their observational skills with an awareness of form, line, tone and colour. This class is for all levels, from first time beginner to experienced artist. Although called life drawing, other mediums such as inks, pastels and paint may be employed. By studying the traditional discipline of life drawing, you will learn how to draw and gain an understanding of the human body and greatly improve your hand-eye coordination and drawing and painting skills. A beginners painting class where you will learn the art of intuitive painting and explore the process of creating rather than only focusing on the finished product. You don't need to be able to draw to create wonderful art works. We will be exploring how to approach the paper/canvas with paint application, mark making, texture choice, colour theory, collage, paint layering using acrylics and lots more. During this course children will learn fundamentals of academic drawing by studying the main geometric shapes, values and tonal shading, the laws of perspective and composition.
