Experimental Life Drawing

Getting Started with Oil Painting

This course is designed to get you familiar with using oil paints. Although centred around portraiture it explores the basic techniques that you can carry forward and easily apply to other painting genres. You will learn to make an underpainting known as a grisaille painting, and another technique using a mix of basic colours known as the Zorn palette. Evening Life Drawing

Portrait painting

A portrait class offering students the opportunity to paint in oils, acrylic, gouache or watercolour from a single pose. Open to students of all abilities. We will take a broad approach to painting the model, whether it be with more traditional techniques or to pursue your own intuitive direction to painting. Silk Painting

Discover the joys of silk painting, exploring effects of wet and dry painting, printing, transfer, marbling, alcohol and salt technqiues. Create a beautiful silk scarf to treasure. We will work freestyle off the frame to build up textural layers and use watercolour flowing effects inspired by natural forms. The techniques are easy to learn and allow freedom of expression for all levels with the innate sheen of the silk bringing colours and designs vividly to life.
