Jess believes that as well as learning, the most important thing is your enjoyment of the experience. These informal classes are open to any level for students to develop their individual practice in drawing and painting. This is not a structured course - instead students develop their own personal projects - Jess treats each student individually giving support, guidance and practical advice throughout. Composition and colour can be explored either through representational or abstract approaches. Various imaginative, observational and project-based subjects can be studied as themes.   £205 per 10 session term.

A chance to explore watercolour in a relaxed and creative environment. We will take a broad approach to this sensitive and vibrant medium. Along with more traditional techniques, you will be encouraged to develop your own intuitive direction. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.  This course will provide a practical understanding of the various ways watercolour can be used. The class will include exercises to explore different techniques, how to mix colour and apply paint, use of other water-soluble materials, eg, ink, pen and wash, gouache as well as analysing the methods and approaches of other watercolour artists.  Students will need to bring their own materials. Kids Do Art are passionate about teaching children art. We offer a range of exciting 2D and 3D projects that have been developed to encourage creativity and to broaden visual language. This is a wonderful way for children to learn techniques and to express their creativity under the supervision of professional artists. skill will be developed in drawing, painting, model making.  Students from Akiva reception, years 1 & 2 can start class at 3.30pm - 5pm, with collection form class between 3.05pm -  3.15pm . One Day Beginners Life Drawing Workshop - Wednesday 16th February 2022          NEW

Wednesday 16th February: 10 - 4pm.    

Spend a day learning the basics of life drawing.  Suitable for those who have little or no experience in drawing the human body, or those who want to refresh their technique.  This workshop will include: 

 

  • Experimenting with drawing mediums: pencil, charcoal, soft pastel & other techniques

  • exploring the basic anatomy of the body, the shapes within its' structure

  • learn proportion & overall contours

  • volume & tone

  • gesture & movement of the body

  • a variety of short & longer poses throughout the day

  • no need to bring anything with you apart from a pack lunch or buy a delicious lunch at the Strudel Cafe on site at the Sternberg Centre

  • £90 for the day, all materials included - just bring an apron.

A beginners painting class where you will learn the art of intuitive painting and explore the process of creating rather than only focusing on the finished product. You don't need to be able to draw to create wonderful art works.  We will be exploring how to approach the paper/canvas with paint application, mark making, texture choice, warm vs cool colours, colour theory, collage, paint layering using acrylics and lots more. Intuitive painting will let you express yourself and you will be amazed at what you can create with intelligent mark making.  £240 for a 10 week term.

Beginners Oil Painting - Drawing with a Brush

This class is suitable for complete beginners or for those who have some past experience but would like a reminder of the basics, with a view to getting back into regular practice.  This class will teach you the fundamentals of oil painting.  You will learn to:

  • appreciate the qualities of painting with oils

  • learn how to set out your palette and mix colours

  • develop effective brush techniques

  • learn to blend ‘wet on wet’ paint on the canvas

  • put the ‘grisaille method’ into practice

  • an understanding of basic colour theory

  • learn how to prepare various supports

  • continue learning the fundamental techniques of drawing including contour line, volume, tonal values, composition, scale, colour theory and much more.
